Message from the President

Our September Meeting is one you shouldn't miss. Besides the technical presentation by Accucore, the PAMIA General Membership Meeting has an active agenda.

First, nominations will be taken for PAMIA Executive Board Positions in 1994. If you are interested in a position, call a board member TODAY. You have a very realistic chance! So far, things are wide open. Take this opportunity to help others in your field, and become more involved!

Next, voting will be held on two issues, the first of which will be the creation of a PAMIA Promotion Committee. The purpose of the committee will be to inform non members of PAMIA, and to promote further activity in the present membership. If the committee is voted into existence, Alan Stankus of J.F.K. Hospital will chair the committee. Already, work has been done towards these causes.

Finally, do YOU think PAMIA should become an affiliate of the Society of Biomedical Equipment Technicians? Quite a few of our members are SBET members through their respective places of employment, and many are not. The basic benefits of an AAMI Membership can be had with SBET Membership, a subscription to AAMI News and Biomedical Instrumentation and Technology, an AAMI Membership Directory, discounts on AAMI events and publications, and more! Without affiliation, individual memberships now cost $55 per year. At the cost of $100 per year, all PAMIA Members can get individual SBET Memberships for only $35. Also, PAMIA would be granted two free memberships per year (which would make nice awards for students!). Basically, it appears that if only a handful of PAMIA Members take advantage of the discount, it would be worth the expense from the PAMIA Treasury.

Please try to be on hand to participate in this upcoming meeting!

Make it a point too to mark your calendar for a special afternoon meeting at North American Drager in Telford, PA. NA Drager will treat us to a tour of their facility, and will give a presentation on anesthesia machines, based of course on their popular Narkomed 2!

Our Annual Dinner is in the planning stages for late November, watch for a separate mailing and our next newsletter for details!

Lou Schonder
1993 PAMIA President

The PAMIA Lounge

Don't forget about PAMIA's very own computer bulletin board, set aside on ECRINet, ECRI's bulletin board. The PAMIA section can be found by selecting Conferences <C>, and then section <6> for the PAMIA Lounge. Access to the board is simple. First, get a PC, a modem, and appropriate terminal software. Set your software for N 8 1 (no parity, 8 bit word length, and 1 stop bit). ECRINet can handle any baud rate up to 14.4K baud. To logon, dial (215) 825 9284 with your modem. If you haven't logged on before, the system will prompt you through the logon process, and you will be asked to select a password. That's all there is to it. You can then have direct contact with other biomeds and clinical engineers across the US and Canada on the "ECRI Healthcare Technology" conference (Section #1). If you haven't logged on yet, do it! It's fun and informative!
